Correct Answer:
(B) Edema

Explanation:
“Edema” is swelling caused by the escape of fluids from the bloodstream into the surrounding tissue area. The ankle has been injured which causes changes in the vascularity of the area. Capillaries in the area become more permeable (not less) and fluid passes from them into the damaged tissue area, causing swelling. The swelling limits movement of the joint. Phagocytosis is the cellular removal of debris and pathogens from the injured area. New collagen fibers are not formed until the second part of the healing process (Repair Phase). The repair phase begins as early as two days after injury and may last for up to two months.
