2017.07.15 CSCS Daily Study Question:
Which side of the heart pumps blood towards the rest of the body (systemic circulation )?
Continue Reading / scroll down for answer…..
The right atria receives deoxygenated blood from systemic circulation and sends this blood into the right ventricle. The right ventricle sends deoxygenated blood into pulmonary circulation so the blood can release CO2 and pick up oxygen in the lungs. Oxygenated blood returns from pulmonary circulation to the left atria. The left atria sends oxygenated blood to the left ventricle. The left ventricle sends oxygenated blood into systemic circulation.
It wouldn’t be technically accurate to include “inferior” as an answer choice since the left ventricle is in the inferior portion of the heart.
