One of your athletes is performing forward step lunges with a barbell racked behind his neck. The athlete has positioned the safety catches on the power cage so that he can unrack the barbell and step forward into his first repetition, away from the rack. When he has finished his set, he steps backwards to rerack the weight. Is this permissible?

When lifting weights off of the supports of a squat rack or power cage, the athlete should step backwards, away from the rack to begin. When the exercise is completed, the athlete should step forwards, toward the rack to replace the weights.
